Reserve Division Update
7 Feb 2005 Josh cockburn Although most attention may have been on the dramatic 9-9 draw their first team achieved, it may be that thursday's 7-3 victory for the seconds may be the nore significant result for Cardiff University. Having languished in the bottom half of the table for the first half of the season, largely through having played fewer games, their second consecutive win moves them within reach of their city neighbours at the top. Horfield still separate the Welsh sides in second place, but this defeat was a major blow for their title aspirations. Two days later Cardiff City maintained their position at the top of the table by coming from 3-6 down to draw 6-6 with Bristol City. It's beginning to look as if the Cardiff derby on Marh 2nd could be the title decider, but both teams will be wary of looking too far ahead. In the other match of the weekend, Exeter beat Bristol Uni, although both look to be too far back to be challenging for the medals

Still no clear leader.
3rd Feb 2005 Dave Thomas Cardiff City's stint at the top of the table was shortlived as Bristol City triumphed over their city university rivals and snatched top spot back. A good win over previous leaders Horfield had propelled Cardiff City to the summit but now the league has its third leader in as many weeks. Horfield can reake top spot again with victory tonight at Talybont but even that would only last until Saturday lunchtime when the winner of the Cardiff City Bristol City match will take over. In the second division congratulations go to Bristol University for recording their first win of the year, winning where their firsts could not against Bristol City. In what looks to be very much a rebuilding year for the Badgers, a completely new team have finally turned the corner against a new look Bristol City second 8. Meanwhile Cardiff University seconds continue to outperform their first team, leapfrogging Exeter and moving up to third in the table. With games in hand over second placed Horfield, they will fancy their chances of reaching the summit of the table before the season is out. Whether they can overhaul Cardiff City seconds who have been in fine form since their opening day loss is another matter. The scorers charts are still dominated by the boys, with Kevin Allen closing in on last season's golden korf total already. In the near future an additional table will be produced showing goals scored by 'genuine' second team players, defined as being someone who did not start the correponding first team fixture. (Basically excluding people who were doubling up) |

Last unbeaten record in the
league goes before the halfway stage
10 Dec 2004 Dave Thomas The title race was thrown open again this week as Cardiff University pulled off a surprise 14-6 victory over Bristol City. The dark blue half of Bristol had been holders of the last unbeaten record in the entire league, but it is an indication of how tight the competition is that this run was ended in convincing fashion by a side from the lower half of the table. Bristol University were undoubtedly missing key players fr this match, but the lack of a strong squad has told. Certainly other teams around the league will note with interest that the league will likely be won by a side with a significantly less than 100% record. The win sees Cardiff University gain ground on the leaders and move up to fourth, although Exeter will have the chance to retake that position later in the week when they take on Horfield. |

Site fixed.
29 Nov 2004 Dave Thomas Links to games from the main league page should now be working, as I've updated the way the link generation works. In another minor correction, the scoreline from the Cardiff Derby has been updated to 11-2. Harry Smyth is creditted with the extra goal which I'd forgotten about when I put the result up. Sorry for any confusion. The schedule page is now up to date. Club secretaries should check the schedule to ensure their teams can make each match on the schedule and that they are able to provide a referee for each game on their list. Report any clashes or concerns to Tony. |

Cardiff City take top spot in
reserve division
23 Nov 2004 Dave Thomas A highly successful and entertaining night for Welsh korfball saw 48 korfers take to the court as the Cardiff derby sprouted a third match. Unfortunately for the students the results all went the way of the city side, but their commitment and enthusiasm more than made up for the experience gap and they pushed their city counterparts all the way. A narrow 6-4 victory finally put paid to the students' unbeaten run in the seconds, while the city first team were made to work hard all the way for a 10-2 victory. Finally, development sides from both clubs played out a 4-0 game, with some of City's regular second teamers taking their turn to sit out of the second team providing most of the goals. |

News page launched as Bristol
City go back to top
22 Nov 2004 Dave Thomas League news will be published on this page from now on. Send any league news stories you have to me, match reports, predictions etc and I'll list them here. Please note also that from now on match results will be included as soon as I have them. Scorers for each game can be accessed via the results page as well as through the clubs' pages, those which appear as zeroes are the ones for which I have no information. Please send scorers and players through as soon as you can so that I can get the league website up to date in a timely fashion. Cheers. In the first division Bristol City have gone back to the top of the table after a 13-11 win over Exeter. It's their second victory of this campaign by this scoreline and came after a late fightback by the Devonians. However, with no team able to boast a 100% record the league is still up for grabs as we approach the halfway stage. In a tospy-turvy reserve division Horfield II keep their hold on top spot thanks to a low-scoring win over Bristol City. With Bristol II unable to defeat Exeter's reserves (despite Exeter last week falling heavily to Cardiff City who Bristol City have already beaten), Cardiff II hang on to second spot. The only unbeaten team in the whole league, Cardiff University II are languishing in 4th having only played twice but will have their record severely tested in the Cardiff derby this week. In the scorers charts Kevin Allen has romped to the top with some excellent scoring displays, and the table is on the whole dominated by boys. James Frost of Cardiff City hangs onto top spot in the second team league - for now at least until I have the Exeter scorers from Sunday's games |
